Hey, so sadly I won't be anywhere near there for
the foreseeable future. If however there is anyone
who is planning to go to the Oppikoppi music fest this year
I'll be there. Chances are probably small, but we do get
alot of people from overseas who come specificly for the fest.
Hopefully some of those people also Aard...go google it and
join me there.

Hi all. I'm finally back in the US after being homeless in France for 2 years.
Now I'm homeless in Arlington near Pentagon City and Crystal City.
If anyone out there would like to get together soon, I want to plan a
meetup at Nando's Peri-Peri in Pentagon Row.

If you're in the area and interested, please send me a tell, note, or email
so we can figure out day/time.
I hear they have good food, sangria, beer, vegetarian options, and a kids menu.

It's not mush itself. I'm guessing it's the ShellExecute that's running cmd
and causing a new window to appear. (FWIW, I just checked and manual mapper
backup doesn't cause the screen).

Instead of 'cmd copy blah' (or whatever), 'start /b copy blah' should run it
in the background; I would guess this would fix it, though not 100% sure.

Fair enough.
Use case makes sense too. Though I guess I didn't know Mush would
minimize a full screen app when it does a backup.
Is that something you could possibly modify/configure,

I can (and did before), but changes are overwritten when downloading updates,

looks to be the block of code controlling this in aard_GMCP_mapper.xml
why not just modify the numbers slightly, or just add another local
like backup_mode that you set yourself that is a number rather than: 86400
then you can call that from an alias setting that mush variable
then set the local from GetVariable("yourNewTimerValue")
Seems like 10 min of effort?
I can send you a new version doing something like this if you'd like..

I would leave mush open more often, except that db backups will pop up a window
(sqlite? batch file?) and interrupt fullscreen apps/games.

It would be nice to have a frequency setting for the backups- for example,
setting mapper backups off (none) / fast (every 2 hours) / slow (every 6
hours... for example, don't remember specific numbers).

It would also be nice to be able to set a limit on the number of backups done-
for example, mapper aard, aard_auto, and aard_auto_old without the older/er/est
and only a few backups for stats.db/eq.db instead of four or five for each day
for the past week.

To your point #3: No. It's not required to bot to get up the tiers, that is
pure misinformation and a load of hogwash.

I've been around a long while, have earned my way to where I am now and I'm
GTELL :can now quest
slowly, at my own pace inching up the tiers. It has become easier over the
years with the positive changes to the leveling experience, but I wholly
disagree with the sentiment "botting is required to get to t9". Anyone can
play this game legitimately and succeed without stooping to cheating.

Agree with Escobar's point. As I understand it botting is illegal because it
ruins the game for others. Botting is allowed for some things e.g. doing the
morning shop
speedwalks
practicing some spellup skills etc. but not for
others - why the different rules? Well I suppose it depends on the 'damage'
it does to gameplay. Some points about this :-

1. Bots generally exhibit 'regular' (as in regular automaton) behavious. This
means that the command sequences are very likely to contain repeated segments.
Being able to detect such repeated sequences of commands would allow new
approaches to policing bots.

2. The real problem with bots is that they act much faster than human players
so can clear an area in seconds. Wht not have a botting mode? This would allow
a bot but would insert a large time delay between commands - and I mean long
like at least 1s. Thus, a bot would be a) openly declared as a bot - perhaps
indicated by a prefix b) legal c) really slow. This might be a way to legalise
some botting behaviour without incurring the destruction to game play.

3. Regarding the reasons for botting - Although I'll get totally flamed for
saying this, I think its pretty impossible to get a high tier in this game
without botting. Personally I don't bot - 1000 hours over several years and
still T0 R2. Ok, I level slowly but if I really wanted to get to T7 this side
of the next decade pretty sure there would need to be some botting somewhere.

Allowing 'declared' bots with a really huge slowdown can work. For PK players
the declaration of being in 'bot mode' could create problems - generally a
bot should be more vulnerable to trickery etc - thats the price to pay for the
'regular behaviour' Allowing such a botting mode would also make policing non
declared bots easier since pretty much any repeating sequence of behaviours
would indicate a bot.

END.

I agree with Escobar, that botting is problem while game rules do not allow it.
There are options:
1. Remove reason to bot.
2. Make botting legal.
3. Start to punish bots (nuke is not best, there can be lots more cool options)

Can add curse for x period: negative amount resists-hr-dr (weaker in fighting)
Also additional negative qp gains from quests, cps, gqs etc.
As OPK gives positives qp bonus... punish curse can add negtive qp bonus,
which can be even -8qp per quests.

Good point from great Almila.
I would suggest to change OPK so, that you can attack only same or higher
tier as you self are. No need to PK rape_fights, where t9 100k-2M pups attacks
some t0-t8 who have 0-10k pups only.
It is not newers players fault, that they born later than i started to play
this game.
After exp-table change, i see that t0-t8 range is pretty much learning time.
Real top game starts at t9 anyway.

Changing t0 gqs now, when some players have gained rewards and rankings is
not such idea what ppl would like. Removes same options from future players,
what Myth, Hrutw had long time...
Same dissapointment was hammerswing change... some ppl gained lots rewards
and ranking because of it and it is not fair for the future players.

One of my favorite dates with my wife started with asking her to pick a number
between 10 and 40.
Then we got in the car, put on an awesome mix, and began the adventure.
The number she picked was 27.
I brought a coin: heads was right, tails was left.
At every major intersection we'd flip the coin and that determined our course.
We ended up driving around for two hours laughing and having fun only to end up
30 min away at an excellent hole-in-the-wall Nicaraguan restaurant we otherwise
would have never seen.

Nobody likes to hear this kind of news. One of the greatest things about
Aardwolf is that you get to form bonds with other players from around the
world. You may never meet them or know their face, but when someone leaves,
it can still feel like losing a good friend. Players sometimes stop playing,
but even then you have the possibility that one day the could come back.
In moments like this you lose even that.

I know that Lasher has already dealt with the thread idea aspect, but I will
not stand idly by while you insult Anaristos. He has been my mentor, friend,
and confident since I became an Imm. Teaching me how to do this job well and to
always, above everything else, be fair. Do not ever attack his character or
motivation as it is above reproach by anybody other than Lasher.

Thank you,
Mordist
