We will take into account timezones. This is note based so we have time.

I figured we are all nerds and play aard when we can. So why not Roleplay!

There can be a timer we will agree on if people don't log on for X days.

Could be fun!

Then we each roll numbers and we write notes in that order!

The base story can be written by anyone and chosen by votes!

Anyone interested please reply.

I began my voyage to become a pirate recently and I came across
some Ninja's. The ninja's stole my ship so out of desperation
to continue my voyage I stole a rowboat and equipped it with
my poorly made pirate flag.

I was not prepared for what happened next! As I rowed
into the ocean blue my rowboat started to spin out
of control. I began to descend into a portal like hole
filled with sharks. I could not save myself or my newly
found boat from the fate that awaited.

It took what felt like forever for the ocean to be calm.
I quickly rowed to shore to a time that was not mine.
I saw a young child and asked where I was...
the child replied.. 'We are in Ancient China.' I looked
around and hesitantly asked what year it was.
The child responded with '551 BCE.' then the child said
'I am here because the great Confucius has been awaiting
your arrival Codex, follow me.'

There were NINJA's EVERYWHERE. A little voice inside me
said to kill them all, and then another little voice inside
of me said... 'No, that's suicide wait.'

Finally we arrive at Confucius's home. He greeted me warmly
and said... 'You are here, you are allowed to ask
only one question then you must return home.' This I agreed
to, there was only one thing I wanted to know. Quickly
I said 'The Ninja's seem smarter than I. They stole my
boat. They stole my loot. How do I control the Ninja's?!.'
Confusius smiled and admitted that the Ninja's would do anything
for a Klondike Bar. I smiled but before I could respond I was
whisked away into a vortex and had awoken on my boat.

You see, Pirates are more superior then Ninjas.
Why? Because Ninja's would do ANYTHING for a Klondike Bar.
Where as Pirates... We will just do some really sketchy
things for some Rum and a Goat. But we won't do that.

Thank you Confucius, I now have a lifetime supply of Klondike Bars.

I think we need not just to have role-playing games within Aard, but for the
players who want to publicly keep to a certain role, we should have that, as
well.

Perhaps one day, Noegel, you will overcome your past failures and your shame

It is not that it isn't a thing, it is more long the lines that there is a
serious desire from it from most people. Oladon, I think it was, attempted
to start a DnD campaign a couple of years ago, but that sort of fizzled
after a couple of weeks.

THANK YOU to those who participated! I hope others enjoyed reading your tales
as much as I did. The hardest part of sponsoring any competition is the time
to judge - and I appreciated the effort that went into all the entries. Each
had its own evocative qualities, and was worthy in its own regard.

The decision was difficult, but here is the results of the judging:

First Place: 1 TP from Hwuaijijal + 1M gold from me, 2M gold from Trurien
Awarded to Tyebald, for a history that not only created a very clear image
of who he was, but made me laugh out loud, as well. :)

Second Place: 1 TP from Hwuaijijal + 500k from me + 1M from Trurien
Awarded to Sarl, who's evocative imagery drew me in strongly.

Third Place: 1 TP from Hwuaijijal + 250k from me + 500k from Trurien
Awarded to Fiain, for writing a wicked tease - I WANTED to know more
about those secrets she hints at, want to learn what it is she seeks.

While a fourth place prize wasn't initially offered, I would very much
like to reward all those who participated, because I truly feel they
were all deserving of recognition. I will be awarding 1 TP and 75k to
our fourth place finisher, Lizza, who's piece made me wonder just who
her mother is...

If all of our prize winners would please see me and Trurien for your
prizes, that would be great! (I have the Trivia Points for distribution
as well.)

Again, my enthusiastic thanks to those who entered - I really enjoyed your
efforts and appreciate you sharing your work.

Life was never generous for me.
All I had, all I have lost, I acquired by myself.
The only person I loved never just gave me anything
instead, he teached me how to get it by myself.
That made me a person that I am now.
Because of him and his training, being alone was not a death sentence for me.
Alone...
When he passed away, which was my fault,
I could not force myself to trust anyone else.
In fact, being alone in most cases was a death sentence,
if you were living in the Southern Lands.

What I've remembered from the Southern Lands?
The Werewolf Plague...
Once in a year, when winter came,
a hundreds of thousands of them appeared from nowhere,
trying to wipe mankind out.
We all gathered in the monstrous, ancient fortresses,
trying to hold on and push them mindless beasts off.
Survive.
Once a year men gathered on the walls to defend each other.
Bandit stood shoulder to shoulder with proud knight,
commoner with noble, man with a woman.
In that day, everyone was equal.
When the last beast fell down,
when battered throat of the last werewolf released the last roar,
all gone silent, stood in unusual silence for a while.
Then the world was normal again.

Many things happened after my father died.
I traveled across the Southern Lands,
trying to find a place I'll belong to.
I found no single place which I could call home.
Once I wanted to settle down,
now it was impossible,
after things I've seen.
It's hard to say...
I found out what forces really was controlling the whole realm.
Strange and powerful.
Maybe they were gods, but they were like beasts.
Like werewolves.
And I decided to be one of them.
I achieved nothing. I lost everything.

I was trying to connect myself to the community again,
which held together with cooperation,
but I failed.
In every person I saw evil, insanity and bad intentions.
Everything appeared to crumble and ready to fall down in one wrong moment.
Maybe I was right... or I was insane at all.
The beginning was the hardest part
trying to hide from the horde, when it came.
When they tracked you you were dead man, no matter what.
Death was my best friend she sat with me before the fire every night.
Maybe that was the way I was made to.

I don't know if I died at all or not.
I barely remember anything from the past except that most clear memories.
There is only one thing that I cannot link before the Southern Lands and Aylor
- the void.
I just appeared there in some time
something forced me to go forward through the dark space,
filled with many foreign, peculiar places.
I felt like a ghost, wandering forever without a purpose.
But there appeared to be a light at the end.
That was Aylor.

And there are more questions without an answer.

She stands, her bags packed. She doesn't stay in one
place too long, never has. It makes her grow comfortable,
when she does, and she can't have that. Can't relax around
the people she meets, can't let herself trust them. Why?
She doesn't say. So she wanders, never staying in one
place for more than a week. She does odd jobs here and
there to earn gold, but prefers to live off what she can
gather or hunt for herself. Can't trust people, better to
 be independent.

She leaves the town, used to starting before dawn.
She always does, or people ask her, why dont you stay?
Why do you go? And she cant answer, just gives a faint smile
in return. Mysterious, they call her. Secretive. And
perhaps she is. She has to be distant. What if they
find out, she thinks. They'd never forgive, never forget.
Like before. People can't be trusted, they just can't.

So she wanders. Not aimlessly. She seeks.. something.
She'll know when she finds it. She hasn't yet, though
many times she has thought she has. Almost... but no. That
isn't what she seeks, isn't what she wants. So she moves
on. Waiting to find it, waiting for everything to fall
into place. Its out there, she knows that. She just doesnt
know where. So she wanders, so she searches.. She scans
the horizon, leaving another day behind her, as a new day
 begins.

Darkness. It always starts with darkness. But no darkness is ever complete.
There, over there, a tiny star in the distance. Then over there another, and
here, another. As you look more and more become visible. Each one sending a
beam of light eternally through the void. Now a tiny spark, a glimmer in the
night approaches, throwing back the black and driving it away. The glow pulses
and grows quickly, flowing and flickering, banishing the dark to places
imagination hides from. The glow swirls and becomes a fire. The fire becomes
an inferno, fierce, intense but brings light and safety to the mind. As the
light flows forward a figure is suddenly visible, a child of pale skin
and green eyes lies still and peaceful. Words form in the ether and are then
blown towards the sleeping child, 'Awake Daughter'. The child stirs and
grumbles, the thought of arguing for 10 more minutes sleep pauses in the mind,
only to brushed away by the sudden realisation that dawn is here.

A yawn, a stretch, a first opening of the eyes letting in the bright colours
of light and life. Sounds ripple and swirl around her head, soft rustling of
grass and leaves. Life surrounds her, the tiniest insects crawling across the
land to the largest of beasts listening to her morning breaths. The glade is
beautiful, as always, light dancing from every plant and stone. She sits and
pulls her knees up to her chest, wrapping her willowy arms around them. A
smile lights her face as she listens to the words of fire and she nods.
With a graceful, fluid movement she rises from the ground and looks down on
her new form. A body of nature housing a spark of fire, she smiles at the
irony. But it is a vessel that suits her well.

She closes her eyes briefly feeling the dawn sunlight embracing her, fingers
of warmth holding her tight and fuelling her inner fire. She wants for a
moment to stay here in the peaceful sunshine but already she can hear her
mother whispering in the wind. Opening her eyes she looks across to the
fireflies dancing in breeze and nods at the silent words. So much to do, so
much to learn, candles to be lit and a world to be set alight. She feels the
need to explore this land tugging at her and glancing at her bare feet decides
that new boots will be needed. And a new outift too, something practical,
something hard-wearing. But, oh, something pretty too, greens and yellow are
in season she feels so that is what she will need.

A new start, a new adventure awaits, new roads to walk, new sights to be seen.
Slowly she turns and gently skips across the glade to a path leading out
through the trees. She walks the path, unknown beneath her feet but becoming
part of her with each step.
She stops by a small stone and traces her fingers across the engraved letters
- Aylor 5miles - a mischievous smile crosses her pale lips and never looking
back she goes to create her story.

Stumbling out of bed, Tyebald strapped on his gear, cradled his aching
skull between two calloused hands, and prepared to face another day. And
promptly fell out of a tree.

Oh that's right. Bed. Dryads. Mulled wine......yeah, it's starting to
come back now. Damn dryads and their trees. Okay, so the whole Druid
thing seemed like a pretty good idea. After all, what's not to like: a
whole collection of folks with a penchant for sharing, and loose clothing
providing ready access to the treasures within. Nobody mentions the
dryads though. "Insatiable sexual appetite". Sure, maybe. But all the
talk. "Don't ever leaf me!" "You're tree-mendous!" Nobody ever mentions
the puns. Ever.

That was five years ago now. Six, if you aren't the strongest with numbers.
Or possibly four. Tyebald was not the strongest with numbers. Figures,
on the other hand, were his specialty. Mmm, figures....which is why he
still found himself waking up and falling out of the occasional tree.

Tree. Ground. Seems there's something that's supposed to come next.
Ah yes. And with that, Tyebald struck out across the open ground. Not
running, of course. Certainly not running. That wouldn't be dignified.
Plus, they liked it when he ran. They might be tied to a tree and all, but
the core is all female, and he'd never met a female who didn't enjoy a
good chase. Most of them enjoyed a bad chase. Catch and release. If only
he could count on the release part.

So he wasn't running. Probably some of the fastest walking seen on the
plains of Mesolar, but not running. That was another specialty. A
lifetime of selective property rights had bred a certain effectiveness
at being somewhere else. Between quick wits and fast hands, it always
seemed a good idea to be somewhere different. That was only one of
many lessons Jumpsteady imprinted on him: "Don't be where they want to
hang you." Seems simple enough. He neatly left out the part about not
doing things to deserve being hanged, and that's probably just as well.
Those are all the fun bits.

Jumpsteady was good with the fun bits. Tyebald didn't remember much from
his childhood, but once Jumpsteady took up his tutelage, things started
to be really worth forgetting. "Where were you last night?" for instance.
Who could say? Such a minor detail, certainly not worth the trouble of
remembering. Forgetting was much more profitable. And as for the rest of
what he'd been taught? Well, naturally, that was all long since
forgotten...

It was Jumpsteady who had originally planted the idea of following the
Druids. Planted... Yeah, clearly it was time to put some distance between
him and the dryads.

And so once again, Tyebald found himself striking out across the land.
Head full of wool, pockets full of.....oh gold! That should come in handy!
And a happy tune to keep the hangover company. Nobody enjoys an unhappy
hangover.

Wanting to learn more of this new world and its people, I would like to hereby
sponsor a small quest/competition, for the best character history. Entries may
be posted to this thread, and one week from today, I will select the best from
those received. The top prize(and yes, spelling and punctuation count) will be
1,000,000 gold. (While I know that's not much in the Aardwolf economy, I'm but
a newbie, and it's a significant chunk of my resources.) Second place will get
500,000 gold, and third place will receive 250,000.

Governing Rules: The work must be original. Lifting a character's story from a
book is unacceptable. The history must be detailed here, in full - no links to
external websites, etc. Entries must be posted in English (I'm sorry, it's the
only language I speak).
I look forward to learning about some of the denizens of this world.

Curiously,
